Ms. O’Quinn’s students used books, maps and the Internet to explore different communities located in diverse geographic locations in the United States. Working in groups, the students worked together to research communities in Alaska, Colorado, Maine, Washington State, and Wisconsin. As a result of their investigation, the students gained an insight as to how people live in different communities.

In conjunction with the IIM Methodology, the groups discussed and came up with a thesis for their work. Then they focused their questions of study on the climate, culture, economy, geography, animals and plants of each state. These areas cover social studies as well as science curricula. Each group also included interesting facts of the state. As part of their group work, students created original illustrations to accompany their study.

Each group learned how to use basic PowerPoint to capture and highlight their work.
