Ms. McHugh’s class approached the idea of saving the environment by looking at the various methods that are used presently to produce energy. The class focused their research on fuel sources that would provide energy for many people but most importantly would not pollute the environment. Their research focused upon recycling waste products. What was one of the critical findings that the students discovered was that energy could be transformed and utilized in different ways.

In order to tell their energy story, the students created a comic book and a PowerPoint presentation. They used the computer to organize the information that they found and with more information began to ask different questions. Students took what they deemed crucial to support their focus, by using the II M concept mapping techniques and prioritization of their ideas and facts. The application and presentation of the class knowledge became critical in selling their findings to others. This desire to inform others of their findings and beliefs was crucial in the class’s approach.
